Trunk Shot - Wushu Rope Dart

This video shows a basic trunk shot with a rope dart. This is one of the most basic techniques where you wind the rope around your upper body. First shoot the dart straight back and when it comes back, let it pass behind the back. Then turn to the left and grab the rope with your right hand ( under the left arm ). Lift it and grasp the rope with your left hand ( now the rope is fixed ). For the walking steps check the video. Swing the rope dart under your left shoulder and backwards up over your right shoulder. Then catch it with your right hand when it comes back down and turn 180 degrees to the left. Finally swing the dart forward up and release the part of the rope you are holding with your left hand. The rope will now fall over your back and you will be able to shoot the dart straight forward. You should be able to learn this trick within 3 hours
( if you are a beginner ).

Elbow Front Shot - Wushu Rope Dart

This video shows how to do an elbow front shot. This technique is almost the same as the normal elbow shot ( backwards ), only that you now swing the rope forward up and shoot the dart forward now. Usually the dart is shot backwards - Elbow front shots are applied seldom. Before you try this, you should learn the elbow back shot.

Wushu Front Sweep 900

This video shows how to do a wushu front sweep 900. That's 180 degrees of an initial turn and a 720 degrees sweep. You must not close your arms before the first 180 degrees. You can also keep your arms opened during the entire first rotation. For detailed instruction on how to do a proper wushu front sweep, please visit the animated front sweep tutorial. BTW, at the end of his sweep he whips forward a little. That's just a little mistake because he leaned forward and relaxed his upper body a little bit too much.

Wushu Tong Bi Form

This video shows a tong bi form performed by a student from the Cao Zhou wushu school. This kid is one of Xu Xue Li's students. Tong bi ( slapping hand style ) is a traditional wushu style and this is a freestyle form.

This exercise is called "Wo Hu Gong" ( resting tiger workout ).
"WO" means to rest, "HU" means tiger and "GONG" stands for work ( same gong as in the word gongfu aka kung fu )

Wohugong is a traditional wushu exercise used to harden and strengthn the grip and the forearms. It's often used by practicioners of external and traditional styeles such as: Jinna, External Qigong, Eagle Claw etc.

At the beginning just do pushups on your fingers.
Not extending the fingers totally makes the exercise even harder.
Do pushup and snake movements. ( see video )
Later you can try pushups on your back hands, but don't jump from your palms onto your back hands yet. Be careful with this exercise, becasue you caninjure your wrists badly.

In this lesson you will learn how to spot a buttefly twist ( xuan zi 360 ). This spotting technique only works for kids or somebody who weights much less than you. First of all, the students butterfly kick should be pretty decent. Hold your students left hand with your left hand and his right hand with your right hand. The arms should be crossed like shown in the video above. Make sure students right arm is under his left arm and not the other way around. Step forward with the same speed and timing your students steps forward and let him jump off from the left leg. He has to swing up his right leg like if he were doing a normal butterfly kick ( just without the circuar-down-motion of the upper body ). The student just has to take care of kicking the right leg high enough and closing the legs in mid-air. You will do the rest for him. As soon as he jumps off, pull his right arm up. This initiates the rotation. Make sure you let him twist horizontally. Twisting vertically is very dangerous. At mid-air, release his arms. If you hold his left arm too long, you might block his rotation or even dislocate his shoulder. Let your student fall on a huge pile of mats. Make sure he closes his fists as soon as you release him and let him land with closed legs on the mat pile. At the beginning just jet him hop a few inches, pull a litte and let him fall on his back. Make sure he closes his legs at this point. Keep in mind that this spotting technique is pretty dangerous and you should not try it with somebody who is very far from doing a butterfly twist or proper wushu jumps. You can also use this spotting technique to make your students butterfly twist more horizontal or improve timing of his twist. This video shows how to do a broadsword stab ( ci dao ). Start with the handle at the hip and keep the sword quite horizontal from the beginnin. Look straight forward and stand straight. Then extend the right arm in front of you and move the tip of the sword in a straight line. Also extend your shoulders and fully straighten the right arm ( careful with the elbow at the beginning ). The left hand can either move to the right shoulder or be extended backwards. The right shoulder, the elbow and the hand should be in a horizontal line. The tip of the broadsword can be slightly below this line. A common mistake is raising the top of the sword. Keep looking straight frward.

This video shows the big straightsword circle ( wu hua jian ). Keep your wrist relaxed and turn zour upper body with the movement of the sword. Keep your hand close to truck when you swing the sword behind the back.
