Back Roundhouse Kick Defense
In this video lesson you will learn a few high roundhouse kick ( hou bian tui ) defenses. The one shown first is blocking the kick with the arm and counter-attacking immediately. You can punch ( quanfa ), kick ( tuifa ) or apply a throw ( shuai fa ). You can also grab your opponents leg and throw him ( baotui + shuaifa ), or just hop back to avoid getting kicked. However, this video should just give you an idea of what you can do when your opponent throws a high roundhouse kick at you. Of course you can make up your own defenses and counter-attacks.

Flying Frontkick - TKFJ
In this video lesson you will learn how to do a wushu flying frontkick ( teng kong fei jiao ). There is also an animated tutorial for this skill. To find it, use the seach box above ( search: flying frontkick ). What's impotant about this kick is that you jump and land on the right leg. If the hand slap is too hard for you at the beginning, you can start off without the hand-slap. Don't get used to landing on the left leg if you ever plan to do this jump properly. Ideally you will pull the right leg down even faster than you kicked it up and finish the kick before you rech the highest point of the jump. At the end of this video there are a few warm-up exercises for the flying frontkick. Also learn the runup and the don't forget to check the animated tutorial. Performed by Lu Peng Cheng from the song jiang wushu School. Coach: Wang Guang Ming ( wushu head coach ).

Broadsword Stab - Ci Dao
This video shows how to do a broadsword stab ( ci dao ). Start with the handle at the hip and keep the sword quite horizontal from the beginnin. Look straight forward and stand straight. Then extend the right arm in front of you and move the tip of the sword in a straight line. Also extend your shoulders and fully straighten the right arm ( careful with the elbow at the beginning ). The left hand can either move to the right shoulder or be extended backwards. The right shoulder, the elbow and the hand should be in a horizontal line. The tip of the broadsword can be slightly below this line. A common mistake is raising the top of the sword. Keep looking straight frward.
Performed by Yang Jia Le from the Song Jiang Wushu School.

Flying Frontkick - Landing on Both Legs
This video shows how to land a flying frontkick on both legs. When you do a flying frontkick, you should jump from the right leg, kick the right lang and land on the right leg. That's quite hard for most biginners, so many just jump from the right and land on the left. If you find it very hard to land on the right leg, you can also land on both legs at the same time. At least that's closer to "CORRECT FORM" than landing on the left leg. At the same time it's not that bad for the knee and the hip and in some traditional styles, flying frontkicks are executed like this. ( watch video )

Staff Front Twirl
This video shows how to do a front twirl with a wushu staff ( wu hua gun ). There is also an animated tutorial for this technique in the wushu section ( search for it ). Stand with the right leg forward and hold the staff in your right hand. Then put the left hand over the right hand and turn the long end of the stuff under your right arm. Turn to the left and then open up again. Do one full circle on the left side and then let the long side of the staff pass on the right side of the right elbow ( turn back again ). Then put the long end of the staff under your arm again.
Keep the staff close to your body and swing it in in vertical layers.
Performedby Yang Jia Le from theSang Jiang Wushu School.

Yun Dao - Broadsword
This video shows how to do the yun dao technique. ( sorry, I am not sure which yun - yundao is, but I think is "cloud sword" dao = broadsword ). Keep your wrist relaxed and bring your right hand to the right hip. The sword should be pass pretty close to the head ( see head movement in the video ). The yundao technique is often combined with cidao techniques ( cidao = broadswrd stab )
Performed by Yang Jia Le and Lu Peng Cheng - Song Jiang Wushu School.

Backflip with extended knees.
Round-off to backflip with extended knees.
When you look close, you will notice that the knees are fully extended, but the ankles are flexed.
Looks funny and makes the whole thing kinda unique.
The guy doing this is "La Mosca" from pequenosmandingueiros.8m.com.
I taped this in La Paz - Bolivia.

Moonsault
"La Mosca" from pequenosmandingueiros.8m.com doing a really nice moonsault.
For those who don't know the difference between a moonsault and a backflip layout: When you do a backflip layout, you have to keep your entire body straight and when you do a moonsault, you hollow your back in the air.
Moonsaults are very popular in XMA, capoeira, wushu etc.
Layouts are typical gymnastics skills.

Roundoff - Moonsault
Another roundoff - moonsault.
Taped with the bolivian capoeira group: "Pequeños Mindingueiros" in La Paz 2007.
The guy jumping here has quite a lot of gymnastics background, that's why his moonsault looks a bit straighter.

Reverse Butterflytwist
This video shows a reverse butterflytwist. Normally you jump off from the left leg, twist 360° and land on the left leg. This butterflytwist is done the other way around. Jump from the right leg - Land on the right leg. Before you try this, you should learn the normal butterfly twist from the left leg and of course the butterfly kick. ( without twist ) I taped this 2007 with the capoeira group:"pequenosmandingueiros.8m.com" in La Paz Bolivia. In capoeira language this is called "PIRULITO REVERSO" Pirulite = Butterflytwist.

Backflip over training partner
"La Mosca" doing a backflip over one of his training partners.
BTW, if you want to learn to flip over something or somebody, you should learn how to flip over a pile of foam first.
Don't try to jump over a fireplug right away. ;)

Double Flashkick
Round-off to double flashkick.
That's basically like a backflip layout, only that you switch legs twice while you are in the air.
Obviously you should practice back tucks, normal flashkicks and layouts before you try this.

Twist + Back Walkover
"La Mosca" doing a front twist and a back walkover.
I'm not quite sure if the 1s technique is a folha seca com giro, becasue the legs don't go straight up.
However, ... nice combination. I taped this 2007 with the bolivian capoeira team "Pequeños Mandingueiros" .
