Whirlwind Kick 720 & 540

This video is for those who want to learn the 720 or the 540 whirlwind kick ( xuan feng jiao zhuan ti 540 / 720 ) Before you try this you should learn the whirlwind kick landing on the right leg and it also helps if you can do the butterfly twist. What's important about extra twists: 1) Keep your upper body vertical during the whole technique ( specially when you jump off ) 2) Try to finish the kick before you reach the highest point of the jump. 3) Don't look down to the floor when you are in the air. ( if you bend your head down, you will automatically round your back and slow down the rotation. 4) Close hands and feet ASAP. 5) Turn your head to the left ( after slap ) 6) Don't try this on hard ground right away. Jump into a sand-pit first. For me jumping from half a meter into water worked even better.

Flying Frontkick - Cartwheel without Hands - Combo

This video shows how to combine a flying frontkick and a cartwheel without hands. This is considered an easy combination, but it's a lot harder than it looks. If it is too difficult at the beginning, you can do a one-handed cartwheel or a butterfly kick instead of the cartwheel without hands or just hop on the right leg instead of doing the entire flying frontkick. After you land from the flying frontkick, don't bend your knees too much and bring your hands in front of head level. I mean don't squat down or lean back after the flying frontkick. Lean forward and jump from the left leg ASAP. This combination got quite popular after Jet Li did it in his first movie ( Shaolin Temple ). This tutorial was performed by Lu Peng Cheng from the Song Jiang Wushu School. Coach: Wang Guang Ming ( wushu head coach ).

Roundoff Flashkick

This video shows a roundoff flashkick performed by Song Long Yong from the Song Jiang Wushu School. You can jump off like for a moonsault or a backflip layout and then spread the legs. The landing can be kinda tough for the ankle ( becasue one lgs touches the floor first ), so try this with landing mats first and make sure you don't relax your abs too much when you land. This flip is popular in wushu, capoeira and extreme martial arts ( tricking ). Most gymnasts don't practice flashkicks.

Wushu Style Roundoff Moonsault

There isn't really much to say about this video. For those who don't know the difference between moonsault and backflip layout... A layout is when you keep your entire body straight ( like a stick ) and a moonsault is when you hollow your back in the air. Moonsaults are done in Wushu, Capoeira, XMA etc. Gymnasts don't like moonsauts, because it's hard to gain height when you throw your head back and hollow your back. In gymnastics it's atually considered bad technique. However, it looks cool, so PPL practice it.... :) Performed by Song Long Yong from the Song Jiang Wushu School China - Coach: Wang Guang Ming

Cartwheel without Hands - Twist

This video shows how to do cartwheel without hands twist ( in chinese: Ce Kong Fan - Zhuan ti ). This skill is also called aerial twist and hypertwist. There are 2 ways of learning this skill.

1) Do a butterfly Twist without the butterfly runup and swing the right leg higher than to horizontal level ( easier way )

2) Learn the front whel and then twist ( much harder, but looks much better ).

I recommend you learn the b-twist variation first and then work on your front whip and straighten the technique. At the beginning make sure you have a soft landing area ( a sand pit, a gymnastics pit with foam cubes or jump into water ).

Performed by Lu Peng Cheng from the Song Jiang Wushu School.

Butterfly Kick/Twist with Long Weapon

This video is for those who are working on their butterfly kicks/twists with a long weapon ( staff / spear ). Variation 2 is also good for the 3-sectional staff abd both variations are ok fr the pudao. Just watch the video and follow the instructions. My personal training method: Before you try b-twists with a long weapon, you can try it with a long piece of foam roll bar ( construction garbage ). So if you fall, you will not hurt yourself. Butterfly Twist

This video shows how to do a butterfly twist. In gymnastics this is called tong bei and in capoeira mariposa com giro. Before you try the butterfly twist, your butterfly kick should be pretty good. The runup for the b-twist and the b-kick are the same. The difference is that when you do a butterfly kick, your keep your arms wide open and when you do a butterfly twist, you close your hands in front of your chest or your abs. It is very important that you swing our right leg up very high and don't bend the knee. The higher you swing the right leg, the more horizontal you will twist. The butterfly twist should be somewhere between 45 degrees and horizontal. Everythng higher than horizontal is considered a cartwheel without hands with twist. Performed by Song Long Yong, Lu Peng Cheng and Yang Jia Le from the Song Jiang Wushu School China. Coach: Wang Guang Ming ( wushu head coach ).

Buttefly Combo

A butterfly combo is when you do 2 or more butterfly kicks in a row. Don't do any steps in-between the jumps. What's important about combining butterfly kicks is that you have to keep swinging the upper body in a wide motion after every jump. At the beginning just try to do 2 butterfly kicks in a row. Later you can try 3 or more b-kicks and finish off with a b-twist. Performed by Song Long Yong from the Song Jiang Wushu School. Coach Wang Guang Ming ( wushu competition team ).

Butterfly Kick - Xuan Zi

Learn how to do a butterfly kick ( in chinese: xuan zi ). Run forward and then turn around like shown in the video and open your arms. Bend your upper body down and swing your arms. Then swing your head forward and to the left and swing your right leg up at the same time ( keep the knee as straight as possible ). Kick the right leg up ( ideally higher than hip height ), look straight forward ( not to the floor ) and open your arms. If you would close your arms, you would go for a butterfly twist ( or something between kick and twist - which is not good ). Land on the right leg. Work on your butterfly kicks when you have problems with the height of your butterfly twists. Try to combine 2 or more butterfly kicks and/or twists. The butterfly kick runup and the buttefly twist runup are the same. Performed by Song Long Yong from the Song Jiang Wushu School. Coach: Wang Guang Ming ( wushu head coach ).

Flying Frontkick - TKFJ

In this video lesson you will learn how to do a wushu flying frontkick ( teng kong fei jiao ). There is also an animated tutorial for this skill. To find it, use the seach box above ( search: flying frontkick ). What's impotant about this kick is that you jump and land on the right leg. If the hand slap is too hard for you at the beginning, you can start off without the hand-slap. Don't get used to landing on the left leg if you ever plan to do this jump properly. Ideally you will pull the right leg down even faster than you kicked it up and finish the kick before you rech the highest point of the jump. At the end of this video there are a few warm-up exercises for the flying frontkick. Also learn the runup and the don't forget to check the animated tutorial. Performed by Lu Peng Cheng from the song jiang wushu School. Coach: Wang Guang Ming ( wushu head coach ).
