Wushu Headspring
Learn how to do a wushu headspring ( tou ding fan ). This is a traditional wushu ditang skill. The video shows both, headspring with and without hands. For more info goto wushu - ditang - headspring and check the animated tutorial.
Headspring: If you want to get higher headsprings, try to lift your arms aligned with your upper body. Few wushu people do this variation, but it's quite interesting for those who also do gymnastics.
Headspring without hands: Plant your head as straight as possible and keep your neck muscles contracted. Don't plant your head without hand-support right away. You should use your hands and then gradually release pressure from your hands ( ever several weeks ). Don't try this if your headsprings with hands are not perfect. As a preparation for this skill learn the headstand without hands ( leaning against a wall or free ). There is an animated tutorial for the headstand in the breakdance section. Same thing again: Release pressure from your hands gradually, not at once !!!

Flying Frontkick - TKFJ
In this video lesson you will learn how to do a wushu flying frontkick ( teng kong fei jiao ). There is also an animated tutorial for this skill. To find it, use the seach box above ( search: flying frontkick ). What's impotant about this kick is that you jump and land on the right leg. If the hand slap is too hard for you at the beginning, you can start off without the hand-slap. Don't get used to landing on the left leg if you ever plan to do this jump properly. Ideally you will pull the right leg down even faster than you kicked it up and finish the kick before you rech the highest point of the jump. At the end of this video there are a few warm-up exercises for the flying frontkick. Also learn the runup and the don't forget to check the animated tutorial. Performed by Lu Peng Cheng from the song jiang wushu School. Coach: Wang Guang Ming ( wushu head coach ).

Start standing on the right leg and extend the left leg about 1 ft in front of your right foot. Then squat down on the right leg and let the left leg slide forward. the left toe touches the floor, but doesn't carry any of the weight. Try to squat down until the thigh of the right leg is horizontal and keep your upper bodz as upright as possible. There is a detailed animated tutorial for this stace - goto FM - Wushu.

Big Front Swing - Double Whipchain
In this lesson you will learn how to to the big front swing ( da hua zi ) with 2 whipchains ( shuang bian ). Start from the double whipchain empty swing and swing both whips forward down. Keep the chains parallel and don't swing them too fast at the beginning. Then cross the right chain over the left hand and swing the 2 whips like if you were doing a front twirl with a wushu staff. The motion is exactly the same as the front twirl. The 2 whips have to be in one line the whole time. Make sure you keep the circles close to your body and also keep your hands close together. Learn the front twirl with the staff before you try the big front swing with 2 whipchains.

Straight Sanda Punches
In this lesson you will learn how to throw straight sanda punches. Fist you have to stand in a good fighting stance, bring your arms and elbows in the right position
and look staight forward. At the begining you should practice this without hopping or walking around. For more info on how to do a sanda fighting stance, check the fighting stance video. When you punch, you have to twist your fist, so that the back hand points up at the end. Twist your fist at the end of the punch and not at the beginning. Your fist should touch the opponent when your elbow is 80% extended. If you hit your opponent to early or too late, the impact will not be very hard. Extend your shoulder as you punch and keep your chin down and the other hand close to the head ( for protection ). Also use your hips and twist a little on the ball of the foot to put more power into your punch. Don't lean foward too much or you will lose control. In China beginners practice straight punches in front of mirrors for weeks before they start walking and punching. When you throw a front hand punch, twist a little on the ball of the front foot. If you throw a back hanf punch, twist on the ball of the back foot. Later you can try to punch while stepping forward ( increases reach and power ). However, there is an additional lesson for this.

Sanda Hipwheel
In this lesson you will learn how to do a sanda hip wheel grabbing your opponents back. In chinese; Jia Bei Shuai. Grab your opponents right arm between your biceps and your trunk and put your other arm around his back. Don't let his right arm go. Turn your hip and pull him closer. At the same time lower your stance a little bit ( bend knees a little ). Then pull your opponent forward ( with his arm squeezed between your bices and your trunk ), pull him with your right arm and push your hips up at the same time. Look down to your own feet for a moment. Common mistake: Not squeezing his right arm hard enough. This throw will not work if you let your opponents right arm go. In the last stage of the movement force has to be applied with both arms. Performed by:

Help with Butterfly Twist - Answer
Hi Joongbi
I hope this video will help you.
Your problem is that you bend your right leg too much.
Instead of kicking the heel up very high, try to kick your leg up at the knee.
( so your right leg will be straighter and the rotation will be easier and faster )
It doesn't matter if you don't do your btwist very horizontal at this stage.
Just focus on straightening your legs for a while an.
Im sure you will be able to land it better within a few days.
Work on your butterfly kicks and keep video taping yourself.
However, be careful with your wrists and try to use as many mats aas possible if there is still a chance you fall. BTW... Are you jumping with glasses ? :)
Good Luck andbest regards.
M.V.

Big Broadsword Circle Movement
The big broadsword circle ( wu hua da ) is one of the most basic sword techniques and can be seen in every modern and most traditional broadsword forms. This video focuses on the sword movement. Depending on your wushu instructor or your personal style you can move the left hand slightly different. However, the most basic form is raising the arm when the sword moves towards the left side of your trunk and then let your left hand sink down next to your right eye when you swing the sword back.
