Whip Throw - Wushu Jiujiebian
Whip Throw- Wushu Jiujiebian
This video shows how to do a whip throw with a wushu jiujiebian. Start from
an empty front circle on the right side and swing your whip chain forward down.
Make sure you swing your whip in a vertical layer. Release the handle shortly
before the chain reaches the highest point when you swing it backwards up.
Let your whip rotate 360° in the air and catch the handle when it comes back
down.
It doesn't matter if you catch the 2nd or 3rd section instead of the handle
at the beginning, because you can correct your grip during the next few empty
circles.

Sanda Roundhouse Kick
Learn how to do a sanda roundhouse kick. In chinese: Bian Tui. Start from your fightng stance and keep your fists up. Then lift your knee in front of your chest. The higher you lift your knee, the higher you will be able to kick. However, sanda is not about high kicks, it's about powerful and fast kicks. Then twist on the ball of the foot, ( standing leg ) extend your leg and kick in a circular motion. Don't lif the heel of the standing leg too much from the floor ( instable ). Just a little! Extend your ankle when you kick your opponent and kick him with the lower part of the shin or the ankle. Not with the toes or the upper part of your shin. Make sure you keep your fists up as you kick. Finally bend your leg again and bring your foot straight back to the position where you had your knee in front of your chest. If you get used to letting the leg fall after the kick, it will easy for your opponents to grab your leg. Back leg roundhouse kicks are a bit stronger but because the way to the opponent is further, back leg roundhouse kicks can be seen earlier ( which makes counter attacks easier ).

Wushu Flat Stance - Pu Bu
Learn how to do a wushu flat stance ( in chinese: Pu Bu ). Bring your hip as close as possible to the floor while keeping both heels on the floor. One leg is fully extended, the other one is bent. The hip must be lower then the knee of the bent leg and the heel of the bent leg must stay on the floor. If you can't keep your heel on the floor, you need more flexible calf-muscles. The feet are pretty parallel. Look straight forward and keep your upper body as upright as possible, Performed by: Lu Peng Cheng. Coach: Wang Guang Ming - Wushu Competition Team.

Handling a Rope Dart - Wushu
Handling a Wushu Rope Dart
This video shows how to handle a rope dart. Actually the video just shows
how to hold the rope. Wind one end around your left hand and hold a part of
the rope in your right hand. Traditionally the back of the right hand should
point up, but some practitioners also hold the rope with the back
hand pointing down. The right hand drives the dart while the left hand adjusts
the length of the rope. When you shoot the dart, the rope should slide through
the right hand. Make sure
you
use a
rope
that
doesn't
burn your
fingers
when
it slides through your hand. The rope should be between 4 and 5 meters long
and the dart should be 200 to 400 g heavy. At the beginning you can attach
something soft to the end of the rope ( for example a tennis ball ) so that
you can't injure yourself when you try new skills. Whenever you need to change
the length of the rope, let the rope fall out of your left hand or wind it
back up circling the left hand.

Left Right Combination
This video shows how to combine front hand hook punch and back hand straight punch ( left right combination ) . The front hand hook punch is usually thrown first. Watch the hip movement in the first punch. Keep your right hand close to your chin to protect your head. Then throw a back hand punch, which is even stronger ( back hand punches are stronger, but because the distance to the impact is longer, it's easier see them coming ) . Watch the hip movement and the back leg when Li Xin throws the second punch. Now the left hand is close to the chin.

Back Pass - Wushu Rope Dart
Back Pass - Wushu Rope Dart
This video shows how to do a back pass with a wushu rope dart. The back pass
( in chinese: shen hou bian, lit: behind the back rope / whip ) is a basic
rope dart drill where you shoot the dart straight back and pull it forward
behind
the
back. To do so you have to raise your right hand over head, so that the rope
doesn't wind around your trunk. It's not really difficult, just watch the video.
Before you learn this skill, learn the straight
rope dart shot.

Side and Front Kick Defense
This video show defenses against side and front kicks. Side and front kicks are straight, thrusted kicks, that's why you escape to one side instead of hopping backwards. Roundhouse kicks on the other side are circular kicks and therefore, defense techniques are different.
1. Escape to the left or the right and block the kick with your arm ( see video ).
Then counter attack or just keep going.
2. You can also grab your opponents leg and throw or sweep him.
3. If your opponent kicks head height, you can't grab his leg, but you can still block and counter-attack or apply another throw ( where your don't grab the foot ).

Nanquan Kid
I taped this when I was watching the training of the current wushu competition team of the Song Jiang Wushu School. This is just a video to get an idea of what you can expect in the next few weeks. The kid here ( Yang Jia Le ) is working on the first part of his competetive Nan Quan Form. He is just 8 years old and can already do all the 720 jumps. When I trained in this class ( 99 to 2003 ) only a few of us could do double twists. Now its almost basic. The class is currenty preparing for a competition ( next friday ) and when they come back, I will make some detailed video tutorials with them.
