Leg Grab Whirl Throw - Sanda Xuan Shuai

The leg grab whirl throw ( in chinese: xuan shuai ) is a circular leg throw often applied after a slow thrusted kick ( especially side kicks and front kicks ). Grab your opponents leg with your arms. Hold the foot between biceps and trunk and press the glove of the other hand on top ( see video ). Practice how to grab your opponents leg with gloves on. Next you have to get used to your opponents movements. If you move forward, your opponent will move towards you. If he doesn't, you will easily push him off the platform and get 3 points. So you push, stop, push, pull, etc. Just don't let his leg go. Whenever he tries to balance out his position, you pull his foot down to the floor and to the left. This should happen when he hops ( he will have to hop, beause he only stands on one leg ). For this throw your timing has to be perfect and of cause it only works if your were able to grab one of your opponents slow kicks. Keep in mind that you don't have your hands free. If your opponent bends his knee and comes too close, better sweep him.

    Back Roundhouse Kick Defense

In this video lesson you will learn a few high roundhouse kick ( hou bian tui ) defenses. The one shown first is blocking the kick with the arm and counter-attacking immediately. You can punch ( quanfa ), kick ( tuifa ) or apply a throw ( shuai fa ). You can also grab your opponents leg and throw him ( baotui + shuaifa ), or just hop back to avoid getting kicked. However, this video should just give you an idea of what you can do when your opponent throws a high roundhouse kick at you. Of course you can make up your own defenses and counter-attacks.

Folha Seco Twist or just front twist.

Another front twist. I think for a folha seca twist the legs should go straighter up, so I am not really sure what this trick is called.

85 Form - Yang Style Taiji

85 Form - Traditional Yang Style Taiji

This video shows the 85 steps yang style taiji form ( ba shi wu shi yang shi taijiquan ). This form is considered the most complex yang style form and was created by Yang Cheng Fu himself. The 85 form is a traditional form and because of it's length it is not used for competitions. There is also a 108 yang style taiji form, but there are just a few more repeated movements in it and it's technically very similar to the 85 form. Before you learn the 85 form, you should learn the 24 form, the 28 form etc.

    48 Form - Taijiquan

Taiji 48 Form - Traditional Yang Style

This video shows the 48 form. The 48 form is a mixed taiji form used for competitions and it is similar to the 42 form. However, the 42 form is more popular. Before you learn the 48 form, you should learn the 24 form. Some taiji masters don't like the 42 and the 48 form, because their movements are mixed from yang, chen and sun style.

    Moving Forward - Sanda Lesson

In this lesson you will learn how to move forward while maintaining a sanda fighting stance. First you have to know that your legs carry your upper body. Don't lean forward, back or to the side while you step forward. The trunk acts as one unit and stays vertical. Make sure you keep your fists up and look staight forward. For more info on how to execute a sanda fighting stance, check the fighting stance video. When you move forward, the front leg moves first and the back leg follows shortly after. Move on the balls of your feet, but keep your heels pretty close to the floor. Don't stand up too much and avoid closing your legs. The distance between your feet should not change much. Don't hop too high. If there is too much up and down, you might not be able to change direction if your opponent attacks you. Skip forward fast and flat.

    Front Hand Punch + Walking

This video shows how to put more power and speed into your front hand punch ( qian shou zi quan ) . This is all about timing. Work on your walking steps in slow motion first and then punch at the same time. Make sure you also use your hips and protect your head keeping the other hand close to the chin. Just make small steps at the begining. Once you are used to punching and walking forward at the same time, you can try to punch while stepping backwards. ( weaker punch, but effective if your opponent follows you agressively ) .

    Sanda - Leggrab Hookthrow

The leg grab hook throw ( in chinese: bao tui gou shuai ) is a sanda throw where you grab your opponents leg and then sweep his leg. You can apply this technique after a side kick or a front kick. Grab your opponents leg like shown in the video. One hand under the leg and push with the glove of the other hand on top of his ankle. Then move forward and hook his thigh close to the hip area ( shoulders close to opponents trunk ). Stand up a little and hook / sweep his standing leg. The only moment where your opponent could counter-attack you is when you move forward ( you don't have your hands free but he can punch you ).
