Overhead Lift Throw - Sanda Kang Shuai

In this lesson you will learn how to apply a sanda overhead lift throw with gloves on ( in chinese Kang Shuai ). This throw is applied when your opponent throws a heavy punch in head height. Tuck and step forward with your front leg like if zou were doing a lunge. Press your shoulders against your opponents hips. Push forward, so that he basically falls on your left shoulder. Surround his legs with your arms and stand up pushing forward at the same time. Then let him fall over your back.

    Pudao - Helicopter Swing

This video shows how to do a helicopter swing with a pudao. The helicopter swing is a pudao technique where you swing the sword ( dao ) in horizontal layers ( head and hip height ). Start with the pudao in your right hand and swing it in front of your foreahead. Grab the stick with the left hand ( very close to the right hand ) and keep swinging the sword. Then tuck and swing the pudao behind the back. Try to swing the sword as horizontal as possible. Put your left hand with the pudao on your lower back ( the hand should be very close to the lower back ) and change hands now. There are 2 variaions how you can change hands.

    Variation 1: See Video
Variation 2: WIth both palms pointing away from the body ( larger circle )

Keep swinging the pudao and change hands again when the stick is in front of your forehead. It should feel like if the pudao were moving up and down and you escape with your upper body.

Trunk Shot - Wushu Rope Dart

Trunk Shot - Wushu Rope Dart

This video shows a basic trunk shot with a rope dart. This is one of the most basic techniques where you wind the rope around your upper body. First shoot the dart straight back and when it comes back, let it pass behind the back. Then turn to the left and grab the rope with your right hand ( under the left arm ). Lift it and grasp the rope with your left hand ( now the rope is fixed ). For the walking steps check the video. Swing the rope dart under your left shoulder and backwards up over your right shoulder. Then catch it with your right hand when it comes back down and turn 180 degrees to the left. Finally swing the dart forward up and release the part of the rope you are holding with your left hand. The rope will now fall over your back and you will be able to shoot the dart straight forward. You should be able to learn this trick within 3 hours
    ( if you are a beginner ).

    Gui Ding Quan

Gui Ding Quan is probably "THE" most important free hand wushu form. Everybody in China who learns wushu, first learns the stances and the basic kicks, then "wu bu quan" ( 5 stances form ) and the first real-long-form us Gui Ding Quan ( basic form ). Some people say it's a kids form, others say it's just for modern wushu, but if you train in China, you have to learn this form, no matter what. It's like the only standard form every wushu person has to know. After that, most wushu people start learning weapons and practice freestyle forms and difficulties. Guiding means basic, and of coure there are other basics forms, like chang quan gui ding quan, but as I said, this one is the most important one.

Wristlock - Thumb & Little Finger Lock

In this lesson you will learn how to apply a thumb & little finger lock. This wristlock is very effective when your opponent grabs your right wrist with his right hand. Of course you can make up your own variations.

First open you right fist and lift your hand to chest height. At the same time grab your opponents thumb and his little finger from underneath. Press his fingers against your forearm, so that his hand is locked on your wrist. !!! In the video you can't see how the little finger is locked.

Extend your righ hand and wind your fngers around your opponents forearm. At the same time make sure that his thumb and his hand maintains on your wrist.

Press down and keep your grip firm.
With this wristlock you are twisting your opponents joint in 2 directins at the same time => painful. Please be careful if you try this wristlock with a friend or your little brother.

    Whirlwind Kick 720 & 540

This video is for those who want to learn the 720 or the 540 whirlwind kick ( xuan feng jiao zhuan ti 540 / 720 ) Before you try this you should learn the whirlwind kick landing on the right leg and it also helps if you can do the butterfly twist. What's important about extra twists: 1) Keep your upper body vertical during the whole technique ( specially when you jump off ) 2) Try to finish the kick before you reach the highest point of the jump. 3) Don't look down to the floor when you are in the air. ( if you bend your head down, you will automatically round your back and slow down the rotation. 4) Close hands and feet ASAP. 5) Turn your head to the left ( after slap ) 6) Don't try this on hard ground right away. Jump into a sand-pit first. For me jumping from half a meter into water worked even better.

    Mini Backflip

A mini backflip I taped 2007 with the capoeira team Pequeños Mandinueiros. If you want to learn this, you should work on your normal back tucks first. This is a bit harder, because you can't gain that much height. ( you don't extend you knees fully as you jump off )

    Straight Ropedart Shot - Wushu

Straight Rope Dart Shot - Wushu

This video shows how to do a straight rope dart ( shengbiao / shengbian ) shot. This is the first time you let the dart fly straight forward. Before you learn this basic skill, you should learn bow to swing and hold the rope. When you shoot the dart, let the rope slide through your right hand. Walk around while shooting the dart and do some empty swings in-between the shots. Don't try any complex rope dart techniques without learning this one first. After mastering the straight rope dart shot, you can try the elbow shot. If you are scared at the beginning, attach a tennis ball to the rope instead of a metal dart.
