Double Leg Shot - Wushu Rope Dart
Double Leg Shot - Wushu Rope Dart
This video shows how to do a double leg shot with a wushu rope dart ( sheng
biao / sheng bian ). Wind the rope dart around your left leg and grasp the
rope with your right hand. Then wind the rope around your right leg and again
grasp the rope with your right hand. If you would now open your right hand,
the rope would fall out behind your legs. Keep swinging the dart and shoot
it straight back. At the same time open both hands, turn 180 degrees to the
left
and catch the rope with your right hand, while the dart flies straight forward.
The first part of this trick is very easy, but the last part requires a lot
of timing. The stomp you can see in the video above just makes the whole thing
look faster, but isn't really part of the technique. Before you try this you
should learn all the rope dart skills where you wind the dart around one limb
and
shoot it straight.

Front Hand Uppercut - Qian Gou
In this lesson you will learn how to do a sanda front hand uppercut ( in chinese: Qian Gou ). Protect your chin with the back hand when you punch ( keep hand close to chin ). Use your hips to put more power and speed into the punch. The front hand uppercut is a vey important sanda punch ( quanfa = punching skills ). To increase your reach, step forward as you punch. At the beginning I recommend you practice this technique in slow motion and/or in front of a mirror. Timing and leg movements are very important. Work with a training partner ( punching pads ).

Broadsword Stab - Ci Dao
This video shows how to do a broadsword stab ( ci dao ). Start with the handle at the hip and keep the sword quite horizontal from the beginnin. Look straight forward and stand straight. Then extend the right arm in front of you and move the tip of the sword in a straight line. Also extend your shoulders and fully straighten the right arm ( careful with the elbow at the beginning ). The left hand can either move to the right shoulder or be extended backwards. The right shoulder, the elbow and the hand should be in a horizontal line. The tip of the broadsword can be slightly below this line. A common mistake is raising the top of the sword. Keep looking straight frward.

Praying Mantis Overhead Snatch Technique
This video shows the prying mantis ( tang lang quan ) technique "overhead snatch". Crouch down and swing your arms in big horizontal circles. Use your hips and your shoulders. Upper body upright. Relax your shoulders and look staight forward. Stand up slowly and arch back while swinging the hands in smaller circles. At the end the hands are over head and you stand on your right leg. The left leg is bent back. Then lift the left knee in front of your abdomen and move down both hands behind the waist ( keep elbows pretty straight ). Exhale at the same time. Then throw your mantis hooks straight forward and relax your shoulders. The momentum of your arms pull your shoulders slightly forward. Don't cramp your upper body. Step forward and swing your arms 3 times. Keep looking straight forward, stand very low and breath 2 times.

Wushu Frontsweep 900
Wushu Front Sweep 900
This video shows how to do a wushu front sweep 900. That's 180 degrees of
an initial turn and a 720 degrees sweep. You must not close your arms before
the
first 180 degrees. You can also keep your arms opened during the entire first
rotation. For detailed instruction on how to do a proper wushu front sweep,
please visit the animated
front sweep tutorial. BTW, at the end of his sweep he whips forward a little.
That's just a little mistake because he leaned forward and relaxed his upper
body a
little bit too much.

Moving Backwards - Hou Hua Bu
In this lesson you will learn how to move backwards. ( in chinese: Hou Hua Bu )Basically it's the same as moving forward, only that now the back leg moves slightly before the front leg moves. Keep your upperbody upright and don't whip forward or back. Keep your fists up and look stright forward. ( see sanda fighting stance ) Move on the balls of your feet, but keep your heels pretty close to the floor. Don't stand up too much and avoid closing your legs. The distance between your feet should not change much. Don't hop too high. If there is too much up and down, you might not be able to change direction fast enough in case your opponent attacks you. Skip back fast and flat. Practice, practice, practice !
