Learn how to do a butterfly kick ( in chinese: xuan zi ). Run forward and then turn around like shown in the video and open your arms. Bend your upper body down and swing your arms. Then swing your head forward and to the left and swing your right leg up at the same time ( keep the knee as straight as possible ). Kick the right leg up ( ideally higher than hip height ), look straight forward ( not to the floor ) and open your arms. If you would close your arms, you would go for a butterfly twist ( or something between kick and twist - which is not good ). Land on the right leg. Work on your butterfly kicks when you have problems with the height of your butterfly twists. Try to combine 2 or more butterfly kicks and/or twists. The butterfly kick runup and the buttefly twist runup are the same. Performed by Song Long Yong from the Song Jiang Wushu School. Coach: Wang Guang Ming ( wushu head coach ).

In this video you will see some Ce Kong Fan ( cartwheel without hands ) variations. On the first view all of them look the same, but if you look closer you will see that all are slightly different. Some people for example like to bounce from the ball of the foot, while others roll over the heel. Another difference you can see is the arm-swing. For detailed instruction on how to do this jump, click the FM button and check the animated tutorial. ( wushu section )

This video shows a 360 and a 720 Flying crossleg kick ( teng kong pan tui ). These are ditangquan difficulties and before you try them, you should be able land a proper whirlwind kick. When you first try this, jump onto mats or into a sandpit. The landing is on the right leg ( slips ) and on the forearms. Avoid falling on your hips or elbows. You can find a detailed instruction at wushu-ditang. There are also 540 flying crossleg kicks ( I will post an additional video this month - may 2008 ). 540 Crossleg Kicks are landed differently, but the take-off is the same. Performed by Yang Jia Le from the Song Jiang Wushu School. Coach: Wang Guang Ming ( wushu head coach ).

This video shows how to combine a flying frontkick and a cartwheel without hands. This is considered an easy combination, but it's a lot harder than it looks. If it is too difficult at the beginning, you can do a one-handed cartwheel or a butterfly kick instead of the cartwheel without hands or just hop on the right leg instead of doing the entire flying frontkick. After you land from the flying frontkick, don't bend your knees too much and bring your hands in front of head level. I mean don't squat down or lean back after the flying frontkick. Lean forward and jump from the left leg ASAP. This combination got quite popular after Jet Li did it in his first movie ( Shaolin Temple ). This tutorial was performed by Lu Peng Cheng from the Song Jiang Wushu School. Coach: Wang Guang Ming ( wushu head coach ).
