Handling a Wushu Rope Dart

This video shows how to handle a rope dart. Actually the video just shows how to hold the rope. Wind one end around your left hand and hold a part of the rope in your right hand. Traditionally the back of the right hand should point up, but some practitioners also hold the rope with the back hand pointing down. The right hand drives the dart while the left hand adjusts the length of the rope. When you shoot the dart, the rope should slide through the right hand. Make sure you use a rope that doesn't burn your fingers when it slides through your hand. The rope should be between 4 and 5 meters long and the dart should be 200 to 400 g heavy. At the beginning you can attach something soft to the end of the rope ( for example a tennis ball ) so that you can't injure yourself when you try new skills. Whenever you need to change the length of the rope, let the rope fall out of your left hand or wind it back up circling the left hand.

Knee Shot - Wushu Rope Dart

This video shows how to shoot the rope dart with the knee. This only works with the right knee. Swing the rope dart forward down and lift the right knee. The rope winds around the knee from the inside to the outside ( watch video ). When the dart swings back up at the right side of the knee, shoot it straight forward. Timing is very important. Before you try this, you should learn the foot bounce shot. The principle of this technique is similar to the elbow shot.

Neck Twine Shot- Wushu Rope Dart

This video shows how to do a neck twine shot. Wind the rope dart around your throat, grasp the rope with your left hand and turn around. Now both hands hold the rope. Swing the rope over your neck again, shoot the dart and release both hands at the same time. The trick is that you turn around, so at the beginning you wind the rope around your throat and in the second half you wind it back. The left hand just carries the rope. You can also do this trick with one hand, but the 2-hand variation looks better.
