In this lesson you will learn how 1 person can spot a back handspring. To apply this spotting technique you don't have to be an experienced gymnastics coach. If your son or daughter wants to learn the back handspring, you can learn this spotting technique even if you don't have a clue about gymnatics. You will earn how to spot faster than your student will learn the back handspring. Just make sure your student can hold a handstand without help for about 3 seconds before you try this. Only do this on mats, because you don't want to injure your kids wrists and be aware that you will have to carry the enire body weight of the person who wants to learn the back handspring. So ask somebody else to learn this spotting technique if you have back problems.

In case the text in the video is too small...

Put your right arm around your students back and the right hand on his hip. The left hand is behind his knee or hamstring. Your stance should be pretty wide and I recommend you stand on the left side of your student. Then the student squats down and leans agains your right arm like if he was sitting on a chair. The upper body and the shins hould be vertical now. The arms should be extended in front of the chest and he should look straight forward. The back is slightly roundsd.

Then the student extends his knees and aligns his arms with the trunk and the head. He basically lies down on your hands ( at hip height ). Carry him back and put him into a handstand position ( careful with the hands ). Finally the studends puts his feet bak down.
The student should not swing his arms or the upper body when he jumps off. He should also not move his knees forward or jump from the balls of the foot. A back handspring is jumped from the flat foot sole. A back flip is jumped from the balls of the foot.

Speed up and help less every time.
It might take a couple of weeks until your student can do a back handspring without hands. Even then keep standing close to your students and find ways to spot him with one hand. Dont let him do a back handspring on hard ground for at leat 2 month.

This is a tutorial on how 1 person can spot a back handspring. It can be used do learn the back handspring, imrove posture or make ones back handsprings wider. Other spotting techniques are: Back Handspring Roll,
2-Person-Spotting, The Capoeira Macaco or learning the back handspring from extreme back-flexibility.

This one is the best spotting technique I know and the most difficult one is the one is from back-flexibility. Please keep in mind that you have to be strong enough to lift your student in front of you, so there is no way a 50 KG person can spot a 100 KG person.

This back handspring tutorial is for spotting the back handspring. For the right technique, check the animated tutorial. < Click Here >

This tutorial was taped at the Song Jiang Wushu School, but I had to show them first. Wushu back handsprings are usually spotted with 2 persons. ( Wushu back handsprings are shorter ). For a tutorial on how 2 persons can spot a back handspring, Click Here.

In this lesson you will learn how to spot a buttefly twist ( xuan zi 360 ). This spotting technique only works for kids or somebody who weights much less than you. First of all, the students butterfly kick should be pretty decent. Hold your students left hand with your left hand and his right hand with your right hand. The arms should be crossed like shown in the video above. Make sure students right arm is under his left arm and not the other way around. Step forward with the same speed and timing your students steps forward and let him jump off from the left leg. He has to swing up his right leg like if he were doing a normal butterfly kick ( just without the circuar-down-motion of the upper body ). The student just has to take care of kicking the right leg high enough and closing the legs in mid-air. You will do the rest for him. As soon as he jumps off, pull his right arm up. This initiates the rotation. Make sure you let him twist horizontally. Twisting vertically is very dangerous. At mid-air, release his arms. If you hold his left arm too long, you might block his rotation or even dislocate his shoulder. Let your student fall on a huge pile of mats. Make sure he closes his fists as soon as you release him and let him land with closed legs on the mat pile. At the beginning just jet him hop a few inches, pull a litte and let him fall on his back. Make sure he closes his legs at this point. Keep in mind that this spotting technique is pretty dangerous and you should not try it with somebody who is very far from doing a butterfly twist or proper wushu jumps. You can also use this spotting technique to make your students butterfly twist more horizontal or improve timing of his twist. However, Flash Mavi doesn't take any responibility for using training methods like this. Read the Terms of Service. Keep it safe and use mats... Lots of mats.

In this video instruction you will learn how to spot a wushu back handspring. This spotting technique is good if you have a student who is too heavy to spot him alone. However, the 1-Person-back-handspring-spotting-technique is better.

Hold your students pants like shown in the video above. His pants should be long, tight and of course pretty strong. At the beginning you should try this on mats. The students should be able to hald the handstand for a few seconds and stretch the bridge before he tries this.

So help your student bend back into a bridge. At the beginning a 3rd person might help planting the hands correctly. You don't wanna injure his wrists! Then lift his legs and an bring him into a handstand position.
The rest comes from alone.

The advantage of this spotting technique is that you can spot a very heavy person. However, be careful spotting somebody who has bad back or shoulder flexibility ( he might injure his wrists).

The disadvantages are that you get used to short back handsprings like they are done in wushu and that the lower back is stressed more than with the 1-person spotting technique.

Keep it safe, use mats, warm up and don't play around.
Find trustful spotters who don't want you to break your neck.
Good Luck
