In this lesson you will learn how to do a sanda front hand uppercut ( in chinese: Qian Gou ). Protect your chin with the back hand when you punch ( keep hand close to chin ). Use your hips to put more power and speed into the punch. The front hand uppercut is a vey important sanda punch ( quanfa = punching skills ). To increase your reach, step forward as you punch. At the beginning I recommend you practice this technique in slow motion and/or in front of a mirror. Timing and leg movements are very important. Work with a training partner ( punching pads ).

In this lesson you will learn how to do a sanda back hand uppercut ( in chinese: Hou Shang Gou ) The back hand uppercut is a vertical punch to the chin. Back hand uppercuts are very stong, but kinda hard to apply. Make sure the front hand stays close to your chin when you punch. Use your hips and your legs to put more power into the punch, but don't jump or stand up too much when you punch. Keep in mind that the chance that you will miss your opponent is pretty high, so you don't wanna use control and balance. Timing is very important. Keep your chin down and watch your opponent. Work with a training partner ( punching pads ).
