A butterfly combo is when you do 2 or more butterfly kicks in a row. Don't do any steps in-between the jumps. What's important about combining butterfly kicks is that you have to keep swinging the upper body in a wide motion after every jump. At the beginning just try to do 2 butterfly kicks in a row. Later you can try 3 or more b-kicks and finish off with a b-twist. Performed by Song Long Yong from the Song Jiang Wushu School. Coach Wang Guang Ming ( wushu competition team ).

Learn how to do a butterfly kick ( in chinese: xuan zi ). Run forward and then turn around like shown in the video and open your arms. Bend your upper body down and swing your arms. Then swing your head forward and to the left and swing your right leg up at the same time ( keep the knee as straight as possible ). Kick the right leg up ( ideally higher than hip height ), look straight forward ( not to the floor ) and open your arms. If you would close your arms, you would go for a butterfly twist ( or something between kick and twist - which is not good ). Land on the right leg. Work on your butterfly kicks when you have problems with the height of your butterfly twists. Try to combine 2 or more butterfly kicks and/or twists. The butterfly kick runup and the buttefly twist runup are the same. Performed by Song Long Yong from the Song Jiang Wushu School. Coach: Wang Guang Ming ( wushu head coach ).

This video shows how to do a butterfly twist. In gymnastics this is called tong bei and in capoeira mariposa com giro. Before you try the butterfly twist, your butterfly kick should be pretty good. The runup for the b-twist and the b-kick are the same. The difference is that when you do a butterfly kick, your keep your arms wide open and when you do a butterfly twist, you close your hands in front of your chest or your abs. It is very important that you swing our right leg up very high and don't bend the knee. The higher you swing the right leg, the more horizontal you will twist. The butterfly twist should be somewhere between 45 degrees and horizontal. Everythng higher than horizontal is considered a cartwheel without hands with twist. Performed by Song Long Yong, Lu Peng Cheng and Yang Jia Le from the Song Jiang Wushu School China. Coach: Wang Guang Ming ( wushu head coach ).

In this lesson you will learn how to spot a buttefly twist ( xuan zi 360 ). This spotting technique only works for kids or somebody who weights much less than you. First of all, the students butterfly kick should be pretty decent. Hold your students left hand with your left hand and his right hand with your right hand. The arms should be crossed like shown in the video above. Make sure students right arm is under his left arm and not the other way around. Step forward with the same speed and timing your students steps forward and let him jump off from the left leg. He has to swing up his right leg like if he were doing a normal butterfly kick ( just without the circuar-down-motion of the upper body ). The student just has to take care of kicking the right leg high enough and closing the legs in mid-air. You will do the rest for him. As soon as he jumps off, pull his right arm up. This initiates the rotation. Make sure you let him twist horizontally. Twisting vertically is very dangerous. At mid-air, release his arms. If you hold his left arm too long, you might block his rotation or even dislocate his shoulder. Let your student fall on a huge pile of mats. Make sure he closes his fists as soon as you release him and let him land with closed legs on the mat pile. At the beginning just jet him hop a few inches, pull a litte and let him fall on his back. Make sure he closes his legs at this point. Keep in mind that this spotting technique is pretty dangerous and you should not try it with somebody who is very far from doing a butterfly twist or proper wushu jumps. You can also use this spotting technique to make your students butterfly twist more horizontal or improve timing of his twist. However, Flash Mavi doesn't take any responibility for using training methods like this. Read the Terms of Service. Keep it safe and use mats... Lots of mats.
