In this video you will learn how to to a front hand hook punch ( in chinese: qian bai ). The qian bai is one of the most important sanda punches. When you apply a qian bai, make sure you keep your back hand close to your chin. A lot of beginners just let the other hand fall when they do a hook punch, but this way your opponent will have free way to your head. The front hook punch is a horizontal circular punch coming from the outisde. Usually it is applied with a fast forward step, which increases reach and power at the same time. The hip movement is very important. Also use your legs to put max power into your hook punch. However, don't jump or turn too much. Pull the fist straight back to its initial position after the punch ( no matter if hit or missed ). Leaning forward too much or putting too much weight into the punch can make it easy for your opponent to counter-attack. Keep your stance balanced and work on your huabu ( huabu = walking steps ). Timing is very important.
