In this lesson you will learn how 1 person can spot a back handspring. To apply this spotting technique you don't have to be an experienced gymnastics coach. If your son or daughter wants to learn the back handspring, you can learn this spotting technique even if you don't have a clue about gymnatics. You will earn how to spot faster than your student will learn the back handspring. Just make sure your student can
hold a handstand without help for about 3 seconds before you try this. Only do this on mats, because you don't want to injure your kids wrists and be aware that you will have to carry the enire body weight of the person who wants to learn the back handspring. So ask somebody else to learn this spotting technique if you have back problems.
In case the text in the video is too small...
Put your right arm around your students back and the right hand on his hip. The left hand is behind his knee or hamstring. Your stance should be pretty wide and I recommend you stand on the left side of your student. Then the student squats down and leans agains your right arm like if he was sitting on a chair. The upper body and the shins hould be vertical now. The arms should be extended in front of the chest and he should look straight forward. The back is slightly roundsd.
Then the student extends his knees and aligns his arms with the trunk and the head. He basically lies down on your hands ( at hip height ). Carry him back and put him into a handstand position ( careful with the hands ). Finally the studends puts his feet bak down.
The student should not swing his arms or the upper body when he jumps off. He should also not move his knees forward or jump from the balls of the foot. A back handspring is jumped from the flat foot sole. A back flip is jumped from the balls of the foot.
Speed up and help less every time.
It might take a couple of weeks until your student can do a back handspring without hands. Even then keep standing close to your students and find ways to spot him with one hand. Dont let him do a back handspring on hard ground for at leat 2 month.
This is a tutorial on how 1 person can spot a back handspring. It can be used do learn the back handspring, imrove posture or make ones back handsprings wider. Other spotting techniques are: Back Handspring Roll,
2-Person-Spotting, The Capoeira Macaco or learning the back handspring from extreme back-flexibility.
This one is the best spotting technique I know and the most difficult one is the one is from back-flexibility.
Please keep in mind that you have to be strong enough to lift your student in front of you, so there is no way a 50 KG person can spot a 100 KG person.
